EMPOWERING EATS: FROM A SINGLE POT TO COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION

The Origin

Before the month of Ramadan in May 2019, three friends connected by a shared love for soccer—Ashraf, Riaaz, and Faizil—decided to address the pressing issue of hunger in the Parkwood and Grassy Park communities. Working normal day jobs across different fields and possessing little to no prior experience in large-scale food distribution, they set out with a simple goal: cook a 100-litre pot of food to feed roughly 200 people as an act of Sadaqa (charity).

The Growth

Driven by determination, that initial plan expanded before the start of Ramadan 2019 to three 100-litre pots of food. As the initiative grew, more volunteers from the community joined to lend a hand, turning a modest grassroots effort into an organised movement.

The Impact Today

By 2023, the operation officially registered as the non-profit organization Empowering Eats. Five years after that initial spark, the organization continues to expand its reach, transforming a shared passion for sports and community welfare into a reliable source of nourishment and hope for underprivileged neighbourhoods.
